President

Koh Layling

The President is the leader of the committee; he/she sets the vision and direction for the club during the term in office. A motivational role for the entire team, he/she is expected to run the club with foresight, develops strategic initiatives for the continuity of the club, guides the team with his/her experience as well as to take full accountability for difficult decisions made on behalf of the club. He/she will personally oversee the Academic portfolio to ensure that the welfare of the NBS community is well taken care of at all times.

Along with the Presidents of the other Academic and major Non-Constituent Clubs, the President of the Accountancy and Business Club will also be part of the Student Union Council. The council debates over NTU-wide issues, and serves to represent their respective communities in the decision-making process on behalf of all NTU students.

Vice President

The Vice Presidents are expected to assist the President in conceptualising the mission of the club and leading the committee towards the common goal of fostering a stronger bond among NBS undergraduates.  They also offer a recognised means of communication with the school authorities.

In addition, they are required to work closely with the President to coordinate all club matters with all the various portfolios. Currently, they oversee the Sports, Social, Publicity and Publication portfolios.

Financial Controller

Timothy Liew

The Financial Controller will be required primarily to manage the funds of the school and assets of the club with much prudence and sound judgment. He/she has to work closely with every portfolio within the club to effectively work out the most reasonable budget for any event. Post-event financial analysis and reporting will be presented to the club at the regular meetings to ensure transparency and better resource-management.

It is of utmost importance to sharpen one’s inter-personal skills and be tactful at all times for the Financial Controller has to deal with many internal as well as external correspondences.  He/she oversees the Business Manager portfolio directly and provides special guidance when dealing with external correspondences.

Honorary General Secretary

The Honorary General Secretary is the administrative officer of the club and oversees and assists the President in the club's administrative duties.

He/she acts as the bridging medium between the Students' Affairs Office as well as the committee itself, to put forth whatever suggestions or proposal the club might have. He/she has the sole responsibility of the recording of meeting minutes as well as seeing to the overall coordination of timings and venues during each meeting.

Ultimately, he/she acts as a facilitator to the President as well as the club's welfare. He/she must be meticulous to ensure the overall smooth running of the club.

Portfolios

Academic Directors

The Academic Directors are expected to fight for the interests of their peers in NBS pertaining to education and career goals. They relay all the concerns of the student body to the Faculty of NBS, through “The Acad Board”, "The Deans-Dialogue Session” and the toll-free hotline at 1900-dial-A-CAD.

The Academic Directors are expected to work to provide Value-Added services for the NBS community at large. They will be responsible for linking up with the various societies and clubs in NTU to supplement the average NBS student with an enhanced skill-set.  Notably, the largest single event which involves the participation of all NBS leaders - The NBS Retreat – led by the Academic Directors, aims to explore collaborative efforts amongst the NBS clubs and affiliate clubs to raise the overall quality of events, and thus the quality of student life, in NBS.

The Business Managers are an integral body to the Committee; they are at the forefront of sourcing for sponsorships for the various events and projects which the Committee conducts for the benefit of the NBS student population. For all events organized by ABC, the Business Managers are the ones tasked to obtain gifts and sorts for distribution – a role which is crucial to the success of any event.

Business Managers are instrumental in the up keeping of a healthy working relationship with all the external agents, in particular, sponsors from both the public and private sectors. They have to be eloquent and tactful opportunists with a well-balanced personality.

From Academic Year 08/09 onwards, the Publications and Publicity portfolios will merge to form the Marketing portfolio. The change of titles and structure is to facilitate the bigger roles of our website, advertisements, sponsorships, magazines and merchandise.

Our Marketing Directors form the main driving force behind the showcase and archival of ABC’s events, milestones and achievements. Being extremely IT-savvy and having an eye for design are two important prerequisites for this portfolio. They communicate both pre-event and post-event updates to the student population via the maintenance of ABC website as well as the release of the NBS per-semester magazine - ABsolutiC.

In addition, the Marketing Directors have to be individuals who are not afraid to challenge the convention, to think out of the box and basically, be totally creative! They direct marketing efforts which focuses mainly on outreach to students by ensuring good publicity for all events and activities held by ABC. Working under tight deadlines, they spearhead all publicity initiatives pertaining to the design of print media including posters and banners, electronic blasts, as well as the overseeing of notice boards, in particular, the NBS AdCentral. Furthermore, they also assist in branding of the NBS identity by handling the design of NBS merchandise for sale to the NBS students.

Social Directors

The Social Directors are dynamic, innovative and resourceful people who conceptualise and execute exciting events for ABC and NBS community to enjoy and have wonderful memories to look back to. They strive to understand the needs of the students and constantly innovate and improve these events to better serve the population. 

The Social Directors aim to foster better ties between ABC and the student population through initiatives such as ‘NBS Getaway’ and ‘NBS Week’. At the same time, they help to bridge the gap between the main committee and sub-committee members in ABC by running internal events which are interactive and meaningful.

Sports Directors

The Sports Directors oversee, plan and execute all sporting events in NBS. This role calls for a passion in sporting events and in particular, excellent relationship management with external bodies as they are involved in liaising with the various universities and their committees as well.

Through the managing of events that include Inter-School Games and the tri-university beach carnival ‘iBIZa’, the Sports Directors seek to forge bonds and encourage interaction between NBS population and the students from the other accountancy and business schools in Singapore.
